Website visitor identification FAQ

Straight answers about what VisitorDetector identifies, what it does not, how it handles privacy and how plans and billing work. If your question is not here, write to [email protected].

01

Accuracy and what we can identify

No. It identifies visits that come from business networks it can match to a company. Visits from home connections, mobile carriers and VPNs stay anonymous. Your report shows the share of visits that were matched, so you always know how much of your traffic you are looking at.

People who work from home, browse on their phone or use a VPN do not come from their employer's network, so there is nothing to match. Small offices on residential internet plans can look like home traffic too. We would rather show fewer companies than guess.

No. VisitorDetector works at company level only. It never attempts to name the individual, find a personal email address or build a profile of a person. Read more in privacy-first visitor identification.

Visits are matched against a licensed B2B data set of business IP ranges and the companies that operate them. The company profile adds firmographic facts such as industry, employee range and headquarters region.

Company name, website, industry, employee range, headquarters country and region, and a link to the company page on LinkedIn when one exists, plus the pages the company viewed, its sessions, entry source and interest score.

The score runs from 0 to 100. It weighs the pages a company viewed (pricing, demo, comparison and case study pages count more), how many sessions it had, whether it came back and how recent the activity is. On Growth and above you can edit the page weights. See website visitor lead scoring.

02

Privacy, consent and cookies

Company-level identification is a common B2B practice, and VisitorDetector is built to keep it at company level. Your obligations depend on where your visitors are and what your privacy notice says. We give you consent mode support, an opt-out page, IP truncation, retention control, a data processing agreement and notice text to adapt. This is not legal advice, and you should check your own situation with counsel.

The script does not require third-party cookies. Whether you need consent depends on your visitors' locations and your setup. If you already use a consent manager, VisitorDetector can follow its signals through consent mode, and it can respect Global Privacy Control and Do Not Track when you turn that on.

Yes. Every customer can link to the opt-out page, where a visitor can stop VisitorDetector from measuring their visits in that browser.

The default retention is 13 months, and you can shorten it in your settings. Starter keeps 90 days of history. Enterprise can set custom retention.

Yes. A DPA is available on request on every plan and is included in the Enterprise security review.

Setup and performance

You paste one script tag before the closing head tag of your site, or add it as a tag in your tag manager. After your account is open, setup usually takes a few minutes.

No. The script is under 10 KB, loads asynchronously and runs after your page has loaded.

Yes. Exclude your office IP ranges, your existing customers and your competitors, so the report and alerts show only the companies you want to reach.

Yes. Starter covers 1 website, Growth 3, Scale 10 and Enterprise is unlimited. Each site has its own page map and weights.

HubSpot, Salesforce, Pipedrive and Slack on Growth and above, plus email alerts, CSV export and a webhook. Scale adds API access and custom field mapping. Enterprise adds SSO with SAML and SCIM. See all integrations.

Plans, limits and billing

Yes, with the demo on the home page. Enter your website to see your own page map, your detection plan and a preview report before you choose a plan. There is no free plan.

New companies wait until your next billing period, or you move up a plan. Alerts and history for companies you already identified keep working.

Each company counts once per billing period, however often it returns. Deleting a company from a list does not free a slot. Anonymous visits never count.

Yes. Cancel from your account. Your plan stays active until the end of the period you paid for and does not renew after that.

Payments are final. We make exceptions for a duplicate charge, a proven unauthorized charge or a complete service failure. Details are in the refund policy.

Yes. Every plan, including Enterprise, is self-service. You choose a plan, confirm your email and set up from your account. Compare plans on the pricing page.
